Dear brothers and sisters, Fiat!

Let us contemplate the goodness of God that has appeared in our midst.

The episode in today’s Gospel is reported only by Matthew. He does not tell in detail the birth of Jesus, he simply mentions it, instead he focuses in detail on the story of the Magi, these pagan wise men who we can find in the first pages of the Gospel.

It is this subject that is dear to the Evangelist: there is a new Wisdom, Jesus, that can’t be welcomed by those who do not start walking, by those who are afraid of change, by those who believe that they do not need the light. And we must put ourselves in the footprints of the Magi to welcome and adore our Savior.

It’s Herod the king that seems to be, in spite of everything, the protagonist of this page! He emerges as contrast to the attitude of the Magi: they are eager to know the Messiah, and because of that unusual astral conjunction, they move with enthusiasm. whereas Herod, and together with him all the experts sages of Scripture, are immediately frightened.

The much awaited prophecy was simply coming true! One can react like Herod to a positive event: with jealousy, with fear, even with a massacre just as it will be soon! Yet Jesus, in His kingship, does not present Himself with an well-armed army, but in the weakness of a new-born child!

God is never hostile and comes with many signs that accompany our day, to give us life. But if, like Herod, we consider Him as an enemy that can take away something from us, by asking us, just as a usurper, to give Him something that belongs to us, then we will harbor deceit, bitterness, shame, closing to life towards God, towards ourselves and others.

It is certain that God, when He comes, upsets our patterns! It is never to pursue a path already set and planned, but to follow, like the Magi, the star that precedes them on their journey.

So many stars in our history encourages us to set out on our way, they light up the desire for God and oust us from our comforts. We must not do like Herod, but like the Magi! If we Keep in us a fervent desire for God, then it shouldn’t be too hard to recognize the right star for us, to lift our gaze to the sky and decide to follow its trajectory, because we will be assured that in misunderstanding, in difficulty, in the uncertainty of the path, however, it will be for a good, the good that God has for us. Only in this way we can build our lives in the fullness of light and strength of the Lord.

On January 6, 1927 Luisa, in her diary, shows a clear teaching about the coming of Jesus on earth and His manifestation to the Magi

For the great portent of His Incarnation, Jesus chose and made use of a Virgin, humble and poor; and, as His custodian, who acted as father to Him, the virgin Saint Joseph, who was so poor that he needed to work in order to support their lives.

In the greatest works God makes use of people whose outward appearance attracts no one’s attention, because dignities, scepters, riches, are always fumes which blind the soul and prevent her from penetrating into the celestial mysteries in order to receive a great act of God, and God Himself.

But in order to manifest to the peoples the coming of the Word of the Father, upon earth, God wanted and made use of royal authority, of learned and erudite men, so that, by their authority, they might diffuse the knowledges of the God now born and, eventually, also impose themselves on the peoples.

But, in spite of this, the star was seen by everyone, yet only the Magi move, pay attention and follow it. This says that, among all, these alone possessed a certain dominion of themselves, such that, as it formed a little empty space within their interior, beyond the appearance of the star, they felt His call echoing in their interior.

And heedless of sacrifices and dominating themselves, they followed the star that was united to God’s call which, more than speaking star, resounded in their interior, enlightened them, attracted them, and spoke many things about the One whom they were to visit; and, drunk with joy, they followed the star.

In order to give the great gift of the Incarnation, a Virgin was needed who would have no human will, who would be more of Heaven than of the earth. So, there was no need of external things and of human appearances, which might draw the attention of the peoples. However, in spite of this, also to manifest His only Son, God wanted men who would have dominion of themselves, which would form a little empty space within their interior, to let the echo of His call resound in it. But what was not their surprise in seeing the star stop, not above a royal palace, but above a vile hovel? They did not know what to think, and were persuaded that there was a mystery – not human, but Divine. When they animated themselves with faith, and entered the grotto and, kneeling, adored Him, as they bent their knees, Jesus revealed Himself, and He let His Divinity shine forth from His little Humanity, and they recognized Him as the King of kings – the One who was coming to save them; and, promptly, they offered themselves to serve Him and to lay down their lives for love of Him.

But God’s Will made Itself known, and sent them again into their region, to let them be, in the midst of those peoples, the criers of God’s coming upon earth.  See then -Jesus concludes – how necessary are the dominion of oneself and the empty space in one’s heart, in order to let His call resound, and to be fit for knowing the truth and for manifesting it to others.

BLESSING OF A HOME AT EPIPHANY

V.  On entering the house the Magi found the child Jesus with Mary his mother

R.  They did him homage and presented to Jesus symbolic gifts:

gold to the great king, incense to the true God, and myrrh as a foreshadowing of his suffering and death.

Let us pray,

         God, our Father, by the guidance of a star, you revealed your only Son as the Savior of all nations.

Grant that we who already know you by faith, may be brought to the contemplation of your glory in our heavenly home.

We ask this through Christ your Son Our Lord.  Amen.     

All may recite the Canticle of the Blessed Virgin Mary (The MAGNIFICAT) by which Mary praised God

at the time of her Visitation to the house of Elizabeth.  St. Luke’s Gospel Chapter 1, verses 46-55.

V.  Be enlightened, O Jerusalem, and shine forth for your light has come.

R And upon you is risen the glory of the Lord Jesus Christ born of the Virgin Mary.

Reading of the Gospel for the Solemnity of the Epiphany of Our Lord.

 St. Matthew’s Gospel, Chapter 2, verses 1 to 12

V.  Jesus Christ, the Savior of the world, has appeared and been revealed to the nations.

R.  The prophets foretold his coming, and the angels and shepherds adored him.

V.  The Magi rejoiced to find him and they lay their treasures before him.

R.  All you nations and peoples, come and adore him.

All recite the OUR FATHER as the rooms of the house are sprinkled with holy water.

Let us pray.

            Blessed are you, Lord, God of all creation.  Through your goodness we have received all benefits.

Come, visit and bless + this house so that it may be a shelter of health, chastity, self-conquest, humility, goodness, mildness, obedience to the Commandments, – and thanksgiving to God, + The Father, +The Son, and +The Holy Spirit.

            May the love and blessings of God, + The Father, and + The Son, and + The Holy Spirit, descend upon this house,

all those who reside within it, and upon all those whom they welcome in the Name of our Savior, Jesus Christ.

And may God’s grace and peace remain with all of them forever.  Amen.

The initials of the names ascribed by tradition to the Magi (Caspar, Melchior and Balthasar), and the numerals of the current year are written with the blessed chalk upon the entry doors of the house in the following manner:

What should we do in the face of escalating violence and terrorist threats that are casting their shadow over the whole world? The Virgin of Revelation said, “Never stop saying the Holy Rosary”! Therefore, this is a call to “fight the good fight of the faith” (St Paul’s letter to Timothy). It is an invite to participate in the spiritual army to battle for peace in the world. It is a call to participate in a Rosary Crusade!

The idea is simple. Each day / week / month (depending on your time) pray the Holy Rosary for the intention to defeat of terrorism.

To enlist in the Rosary Crusade simply complete the form at the bottom of this page and we will send you updates and spiritual encouragement during this year.

We want you to help us to envelope the whole world with prayer because it has the power to change the course of human history and establish peace in our world. The Crusade aims to find volunteers to “enlist” from all parts of the world to pray for the defeat of violence and terrorism in their countries. We pray that in every part of the world someone is praying the Holy Rosary for peace. At all times of the day Mary’s battle cry will arise from the world to invoke her intercession to bring about peace.

The Rosary Makes a Real Difference

History testifies to the fact that nothing like Mary’s intercession has the power to stop or change the course of human history. The Rosary has many times in the past triumphantly brought about the defeat of the enemy. This happened when the Ottoman Empire wanted to enter Europe from the city of Vienna (1683) and were defeated by the Christian coalition and also during the naval battle of Lepanto (1571). Today, more than ever, we must look to the lessons of the past. The battle against the Christian faith is getting increasingly bitter. Our Christian brothers continue to die all over the world for the Gospel and the army of terror is advancing once more to eradicate Europe’s Christian roots.

2017 is an Important Year

2017 is a special year when we will celebrate two important anniversaries: the 100th anniversary of the apparition at Fatima and the 70th anniversary of the apparition of the Virgin of Revelation at Tre Fontane, Rome. Therefore, it is important to respond to Our Lady’s call for prayer and conversion during both these apparitions. The Virgin told Bruno Cornacchiola that many things can be stopped through prayer. Sr Lucia dos Santos the seer at Fatima said, The Most Holy Virgin in these last times in which we live has given a new efficacy to the recitation of the Rosary to such an extent that there is no problem, no matter how difficult it is, whether temporal or above all spiritual, in the personal life of each one of us, of our families…that cannot be solved by the Rosary.” What a fitting celebration of these great feasts to join the Rosary Crusade for peace!

Join our Rosary Crusade. Say the Holy Rosary for peace in the world each day! We commemorate the apparition of the Virgin of Revelation on the 12th day of the month and so the Rosary Crusade will start on the 12th October 2016 until the 12th October 2017.

The Preparation for Two Great Marian Anniversaries

2017 is the year in which we will celebrate two important anniversaries: the 70th anniversary of the apparition of the Virgin of Revelation at Tre Fontane, Rome, and the Centenary of the apparition of Our Lady of Fatima, in Portugal 1917.

What could be a better way to celebrate these anniversaries than by living more intensely the devotion to Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart and consoling her by offering reparation for the sins of the world just as she asked the children at Fatima?  “Do you want to offer yourselves to God, to endure all the sufferings which he will send you, in an act of reparation for the sins by which he is offended and of supplication for the conversion of sinners?” (Memoirs of Sister Lúcia, I, 162).

To live this devotion to Our Lady’s Immaculate heart three things are necessary: the daily Rosary, the practice of the five first Saturday’s of the Month and then consecration to Our Lady’s Immaculate heart.

Starting on the 7th January2017, there are exactly five first Saturdays before the 100th Anniversary that will be celebrated on the 13th May 2017.  In this way, the Consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary can be celebrated on the actual anniversary of the apparition.  There can be no better means of consoling Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart than to follow her maternal spiritual plan of conversion and renewal.

BXVI at FatimaIn 2010, Pope Benedict XVI visited Fatima and reminded everyone that the message Our Lady’s messages to the little shepherds are more than ever relevant today.  The pontiff said: “We would be mistaken to think that Fatima’s prophetic mission is complete. […] At a time when the human family was ready to sacrifice all that was most sacred on the altar of the petty and selfish interests of nations, races, ideologies, groups and individuals, our Blessed Mother came from heaven, offering to implant in the hearts of all those who trust in her the Love of God burning in her own heart.”  By inspiring a fervent devotion to daily prayer and love of God, Our Lady’s call is ever new and ever relevant even in our own time.

It was the Pontiff’s wish that “The […] centenary of the apparitions hasten the fulfilment of the prophecy of the triumph of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, to the glory of the Most Holy Trinity.”  When we follow Our Lady’s message we help to make the Triumph of the Immaculate Heart a reality in our lives and the more people who do the same the more Our Lady triumphs in the world!

Our Lady of Perpetual Help

In the sixth month, the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth to a virgin betrothed to a man named Joseph of the house of David. The Virgin’s name was Mary. And he came to her and said, “Hail, full of grace, the Lord is with you!” But she was greatly troubled at the saying and considered in her mind what sort of greeting this might be. And the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son and you shall call his name Jesus.” And Mary said to the angel, “How can this be since I have no husband?” And the angel said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore, the child to be born will be called holy, the Son of God for with God, nothing is impossible.” Mary said, “Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord; let it be done to me according to your word. Luke 1:26-38

Throughout the past several years I have developed a deep devotion to Mary. She gave the Fiat, the total Yes. She is in communion with the Divine Will. I believe this is what the Holy Trinity wants from all of us. I have stated before that when I invited her into my life, my relationship with Christ became much deeper. Communion with his Will. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. This is not just some empty prayer we pray. Servant of God Luisa Piccarreta had this revealed to her.

I pray this prayer everyday. “Make my will one with yours Lord.” Imagine the whole earth praying this, to make your will one with Love Himself! My Spiritual Director once told me the difference between the Saints in heaven and those of us on earth is that when God asks the Saints in heaven to do something they do it immediately, fully and joyfully, but this is not so with us. I thought about how often God has asked me to do something only to have me fight with Him to find a way out of it, or to only do part of what He asked, and feeling so anxious about doing it. But when you are in a relationship with God, you can only fight so much before a whale swallows you and spits you up on a shore.

And so as we enter into the Holy time of the Christmas Season, and the start of a New Year, I have vowed to do my best to make my Fiat immediate, full and joyful. I look to Our Lady of Perpetual Help – to, well, HELP me because I have failed so miserably in the past. She is the example. I know that God is asking for absolute trust and abandonment. And as I look back on the times when I have said yes, I can see how the blessings have abounded. It’s as if I can see an intricate tapestry of connections woven with the Divine Hand. He constantly tells me all things are connected and when I look back, I can see that they are. I can also see how, even in suffering, there was beauty, and that He works all things for the good of those who love him. So as I look forward, I cannot help but say, “Mother Mary, grab my hand as I step into the unknown with you, knowing we are guided by the Divine Hand, and I have nothing to fear.”

Mary, Guardian of the Kingdom of the Divine Will

Dear brothers and sisters, we still have in our ears the announcement of the angel that at Christmas allowed us to discover an extraordinary newness: God became man like us. The infinite greatness and power without limits of God became humble and small to reach and meet us one by one.

 The angels gave us an indication: “you will find an infant wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger.” ” and an invitation: “Go“.  In fact, Jesus does not enter by force our lives and doesn’t impose Himself on those who do not want to accept Him.

We must go, seek Him, learning to recognize Him in the midst of confusion. We must overcome the fear of getting out of habit, so we can find Him. This is the experience of the shepherds, simple people who allowed themselves to be easily persuaded by the angel, and followed his sign.

This is so hard for us! We are complicated people, with thousand distinctions and certainly it does not suffice that every Sunday the angel’s voice, that is the Gospel, tells us “go there, you will find Him.” For us, everything is more difficult, indeed it’s impossible. A wall of impossibility separates us from the Lord. He exceeds the heavens to reach us, but He is kept away by our wall of the unattainable. It is impossible to change our way of thinking, it is impossible to change our habits, it is impossible not to do as we have always done. What will they think? What will they say about me? And why do we have to take our chances with the unknown while the usual is known and sure?

Today, the liturgy leads us to reflect on the event of Christmas through the perspective of the maternity of Mary, the Mother of the Lord Jesus. When the angel announced that a new life would be born within her, she immediately lifted up the wall of the impossible: ” I know not a man! “.

But she trusted: she spoke with the angel, she listened to him, she responded to him and allowed herself to be persuaded. Mary, like the shepherds, is a simple woman, without the complications and many objections that we advance. The Gospel well describes as Jesus was born into a world of simple and small people.

Mary and Joseph were two poor young people tossed around by history, there were humble shepherds, people who have few objections to make, and easy to persuade. God was born among them. The king of the universe and Lord of the whole world surrounded Himself with humble and little people, not of perfect people nor of wise men. Let’s try to be like them, so God will be born also among us.

As Mary become a mother, the Christmas Gospel proposes also to us to become mothers and fathers. The Gospel says, ” When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. “

Yes,  also the shepherds shared in the extraordinary motherhood of Mary. They too became, in fact, able to carry within themselves that little child and to generate Him elsewhere, with the announcement concerning what they saw and experienced.

Every Christian is called to participate in the maternity of Mary, to overcome, as she did, the objections of common sense, to trust in the angel and to generate within himself and around him a new life, hope, mercy, generosity. Everyone will realize this, all will be astonished by this as by a miracle of salvation.

How can we be fathers and mothers? We can be in the Divine Will.

The Divine Will wants to reign in the midst of creatures. It can be paralleled to the Eternal Word, who, in descending from Heaven, enclosed Himself in the womb of His Celestial Mother. Who knew anything? No one, not even Saint Joseph knew, at the beginning of His conception, that He was already in their midst. Only His inseparable Mother was aware of everything. So, the great portent of His descent from Heaven upon earth had occurred, and in reality; and while with His immensity He existed everywhere – Heaven and earth were immersed in Him, with His person He was enclosed in the maternal womb of the Immaculate Queen – no one knew Him, He was ignored by all.

Here is the first step of the parallel between the Divine Word, and the Divine Will that takes Its first step to come to reign upon earth. Just as Jesus directed His first steps toward the Virgin Mother, so the Divine Will directed Its first steps in Luisa; and as It asked for her will and she surrendered it, It immediately formed Its first act of conception of the Divine Will in her soul; and as It manifested Its knowledges, giving her as though many “divine sips”, It formed Its Life and gave start to the formation of Its Kingdom. But, for a long time, who knew anything?

No one; only Jesus and Luisa were aware of everything; and after some time His representative, the one who directed her became aware of what was happening in her – symbol of His representative, Saint Joseph, who was to appear as His father before creatures.

After the first steps Jesus took the second: He went to Bethlehem to be born, and He was recognized and visited by the shepherds of that place. But they were not influential people, they kept for themselves the beautiful news that the Son of God had already come upon earth, therefore they did not occupy themselves with making Him known, with spreading Him everywhere, and He continued to remain the Jesus hidden and unknown to all. But, though unknown, He was already in their midst – symbol of the Divine Will: very often other His representatives came to Luisa, from afar and from nearby, who listened to the beautiful news of the Kingdom of the Divine Will, the knowledges about It, and how It wants to be recognized. But, some for lack of influence, some of will, they did not occupy themselves with spreading It, and It remained unknown and ignored, even though It already exists in our midst; but because It is not known, It does not reign – It reigned only in Luisa, just as Jesus was only with His Celestial Mother and with His foster father Saint Joseph.

Today’s feast tells us that being fathers and mothers has not only a physical sense. Also those who have children must learn how to regenerate them to the new life of the Gospel, also those who are older should learn to continue through their testimony to generate the new life that does not end. Even the little ones have to learn to desire a new world, and right from the start, to make it different from the world that we know, by knowing and living the Divine Will!
