Praise the Name of Jesus

HEBREWS 13:

15By Hm therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise always to God, that is to say, the fruit of lips confessing to His Name. 16And do not forget to do good, and to impart; for by such sacrifices God’s favour is obtained.

Egyptian Martyrs

The Coptic Orthodox Church has announced that the murder of the 21 Egyptian Christians killed by the so-called Islamic State in Libya will be commemorated in its Church calendar.

Pope Tawadros II announced that the names of the martyrs will be inserted into the Coptic Synaxarium, the Oriental Church’s equivalent to the Roman Martyrology. This procedure is also equivalent to canonization in the Latin Church.

According to terrasanta.net, the martyrdom of the 21 Christians will be commemorated on the 8th Amshir of the Coptic calendar, or February 15th of the Gregorian calendar. The commemoration falls on the feast day of the Presentation of Jesus at the Temple.

Militants of the Islamic State released a gruesome video entitled “A Message Signed in Blood to the Nation of the Cross” in which they released a warning saying they were “south of Rome.” They then proceeded to behead the Christian men, some of whom were seen

SAINT PETER’S CHAIR AT ANTIOCH

St. Peters Chair at Antioch[Commemoration]

SAINT PETER’S CHAIR AT ANTIOCH

DOUBLE, FIRST CLASS / PURPLE

After our first brave efforts of Lent, our natural inclinations tend to reassert themselves. Temptations may increase their strength or their frequency. Hence the danger of discouragement and of slackening in the observance of generous lenten resolutions. It is the critical hour, in which temptation may surprise us, turn our thoughts inward upon personal problems, and make us forget the sufferings of other men. Brother to all men, Jesus showed that temptation can be a way of redeeming souls–our own and those of others. “In that He Himself has suffered and has been tempted, He is able to help those who are tempted” (Heb. 2:18)

INTROIT Ps. 90:15-16

He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him, I will deliver him and glorify him with length of days.
Ps. 90:1. He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High shall abide in the protection of the God of heaven.
V. Glory be . . .

 COLLECT

O God, each year You purify the Church through the lenten observance. May the good works of Your Church obtain for us the grace we ask for through our self-denial. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son, who lives and rules with You in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God forever and ever.

Commemoration of SAINT PETERS CHAIR AT ANTIOCH

This feast commemorates the seven years during which Pope Peter ruled the Church from Antioch before he went to Rome. Since the majority of the Jews had rejected Christianity, Peter left Jerusalem and founded the see of Antioch among the Gentiles. In that large Eastern city, Christianity took deep root, and it was there that the faithful were first called by the name of Christians. After seven years the Vicar of Christ transferred his see to Rome, the very center of the ancient world, so that from it the messengers of salvation might radiate to the uttermost ends of the earth.

O God, You have entrusted the keys of the kingdom of heaven to Your blessed apostle Peter and have given him the power of bishop to bind or to loose. May his intercession free us from the slavery of sin.

Commemoration of SAINT PAULO God, you have instructed many nations through the preaching of the blessed apostle Paul. Let the power of his intercession with You help us who venerate his memory this day. Through our Lord . . .

EPISTLE II Cor. 6:1-10

Brethren: We do exhort you that you receive not the grace of God in vain. For he saith: In an accepted time have I heard thee and in the day of salvation have I helped thee. Behold, now is the acceptable time: behold, now is the day of salvation. Giving no offense to any man, that our ministry be not blamed. But in all things let us exhibit ourselves as the ministers of God, in much patience, in tribulation, in necessities, in distresses, In stripes, in prisons, in seditions, in labours, in watchings, in fastings, In chastity, in knowledge, in longsuffering, in sweetness, in the Holy Ghost, in charity unfeigned, In the word of truth, in the power of God: by the armour of justice on the right hand and on the left: By honour and dishonour: by evil report and good report: as deceivers and yet true: as unknown and yet known: As dying and behold we live: as chastised and not killed: As sorrowful, yet always rejoicing: as needy, yet enriching many: as having nothing and possessing all things.

GRADUAL Ps. 90:11-12

God has given his angels charge over you, that they guard you in all your ways.
V. Upon their hands they shall bear you up, lest you dash your foot against a stone.

TRACT Ps. 90:1-7; 11-16

He who dwells inm the shelter of the Most High shall abide in the protection of the God of heaven.
V
. He shall say to the Lord, “You are my support and my refuge; my God, in You I trust.”
V. For he hath delivered me from the snare of the hunters: and from the sharp word.
V. He will overshadow thee with his shoulders: and under his wings thou shalt trust.
V. His truth shall compass thee with a shield: thou shalt not be afraid of the terror of the night.
V. Of the arrow that flieth in the day, of the business that walketh about in the dark: of invasion, or of the noonday devil.
V. A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand: but it shall not come nigh thee.
V. For he hath given his angels charge over thee; to keep thee in all thy ways.
V. In their hands they shall bear thee up: lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.
V. Thou shalt walk upon the asp and the basilisk: and thou shalt trample under foot the lion and the dragon.
V. Because he hoped in me I will deliver him: I will protect him because he hath known my name.
V
. He shall cry to me, and I will hear him: I am with him in tribulation,
V. I will deliver him, and I will glorify him. I will fill him with length of days; and I will shew him my salvation.

GOSPEL Matt. 4:1-11

At that time, Jesus was led by the spirit into the desert, to be tempted by the devil. And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, afterwards he was hungry. And the tempter coming said to him: “If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.” Who answered and said: “It is written, Not in bread alone doth man live, but in every word that proceedeth from themouth of God.”

Then the devil took him up into the holy city, and set him upon the pinnacle of the temple, And said to him: “If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down, for it is written: That he hath given his angels charge over thee, and in their hands shall they bear thee up, lest perhaps thou dash thy foot against a stone.”

Jesus said to him: “It is written again: Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.”

Again the devil took him up into a very high mountain, and shewed him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them, And said to him: “All these will I give thee, if falling down thou wilt adore me.” Then Jesus saith to him: “Begone, Satan: for it is written: The Lord thy God shalt thou adore, and him only shalt thou serve.”

Then the devil left him; and behold angels came and ministered to him.

The Reason for Redemption

FROM THE BOOK OF HEAVEN

11.26.21

Mag17_HolyTrinityThe only purpose of Creation was that all would fulfill my Will – not that man would do great things; rather, I look at those as trifles and I despise them if they are not fruits of my Will. This is why many works turn to ruin at their peak: because the Life of my Will was not in them. So, having broken his will from Mine, man destroyed my best – the purpose for which I had created him. He ruined himself completely, and denied Me all the rights which he owed Me as Creator. But my works carry the mark of Eternity, and my infinite Wisdom and my eternal Love could not leave the work of Creation without Its effects and the rights which were due to Me.

This is the reason for Redemption. With so many pains, I wanted to expiate all the sins of man – by never doing my own will, but always that of the Divinity, even in the most tiny things, such as breathing, looking, speaking, etc. My Humanity did not move, nor did It have life, if It was not animated by the Will of my Father. I would have contented Myself with dying a thousand times rather than take a breath without His Will. Through this, I joined again the human will with the Divine, and through my Person alone, being true Man and true God, I returned to my Father all the glory and the rights which befitted Him.

But my Will and my Love do not want to be alone in my works – they want to make other images similar to Me. After my Humanity restored the purpose of Creation, I saw that, because of man’s ingratitude, the purpose of Redemption was in danger, and almost ruined for many. Therefore, so that Redemption might bring Me complete glory and give Me all the rights which were due to Me, I took another creature from the human family – my Mama, faithful copy of my Life, in whom my Will was preserved as whole, and I centralized in Her all the fruits of Redemption. So I rescued the purpose of Creation and Redemption; and if no one had taken advantage of Redemption, my Mama would give Me all that the creatures would not have given Me.

Now I come to you. I was true Man and true God, my dear Mama was innocent and holy, and our Love pushed us even further: we wanted another creature who, being conceived like all the other children of men, would take the third place at my side. I was not satisfied with the fact that only Myself and my Mama remained unbroken with the Divine Will. We wanted other children who, in the name of all, living in full accord with our Will, would give Us Divine Glory and Love for all. Therefore I called you from eternity, when nothing yet existed down here; and just as I longed for my dear Mama, delighting in Her, caressing Her, and pouring upon Her, in torrents, all the goods of the Divinity, so I longed for you, I caressed you, and the torrents which were poured on my Mama inundated you – for as much as you were capable of containing. They prepared you, anticipated you; and embellishing you, they gave you the grace that my Will be whole in you, and that my Will, not yours, would animate even your tiniest acts. My Life, my Will and all my Love flew in each act of yours. What contentment! How many joys did I not feel! This is why I call you second support after my Mama. Not upon you did I lean – because you were nothing, and lean I could not – but upon my Will, which you were to contain. My Will is Life, and whoever possesses It possesses Life, and is able to sustain the Author of Life Itself.

Therefore, just as I centralized in Me the purpose of Creation, I centralized in my Mama the fruits of Redemption, and I centralized in you the purpose of the Glory as if my Will were whole in everyone. And from you will come the squad of the other creatures. The generations will not pass away if I do not obtain this intent.”

Stupefied, I said: ‘My Love, is it possible that your Will is whole in me, and that in all my life there has been no break between your Will and mine? It seems to me that you are making fun of me.’ And Jesus, with a tone even sweeter: “No, I am not making fun of you. It is really true that there has been no break; an injury at the most – sometimes. And my Love, like strong cement, has repaired these injuries, and has rendered the integrity stronger. I have guarded each one of your acts, making my Will flow immediately, as if to Its place of honor. I knew that many graces were needed, since I was to operate the greatest miracle that exist in the world – that is, the continuous living in my Will: the soul must absorb the whole of a God into her act, to give Him back again as whole as she absorbed Him; and then absorb Him once again.

Therefore, this surpasses even the miracle of the Eucharist. Its accidents have no reason, nor a will, nor desires which may oppose my Sacramental Life. So, the Host contributes nothing – all the work is Mine; if I want it, I do it. On the other hand, in order to make the miracle of the living in my Will happen, I have to bend a reason, a human will, a desire, a love which is purely free. How much does this not take? Therefore, there are many souls who receive Communion and take part in the miracle of the Eucharist, because they sacrifice less; but having to sacrifice more in order to let the miracle that my Will may have life in them occur – very few are those who dispose themselves.”

LUISA14Further, by Living in the Divine Will—being in continuous contact with It—she acquires Divine Senses.  She acquires a long sight.  Her light is so penetrating and clear, that she can even fix herself in God, in whom she sees the Divine Mysteries.  She can touch Our Sanctity and Beauty, Loving them and possessing them.  With this Eye of Light she can find her Creator everywhere—there’s nothing in which she can’t find Him.  With His Majesty and His Love, He bundles the creature and makes her feel how much He Loves her.  In feeling her love, He Loves her and, O! how Unspeakable the Joys on both parts—feeling His Love and loving Him in everything.  She acquires Divine Hearing, and soon she hears what We want; she is always intent on listening to Us, and there is no need to repeat again and again what We want.  A small sign is enough and all is done.

“She acquires a Divine Sense of Smell.  By merely smelling she feels whether what is around her is Good, Holy and belongs to Us.   She acquires Divine Taste—to the extent that she fills herself with Love and all that is Heaven.   Finally, in Our Will she acquires Our Touch, so that all is Pure and Holy, and there is no fear that even the smallest breath may shade her—all Beautiful, lovely and pretty—the one who Lives in My Fiat.

“On the other hand, one who is only resigned does not live in continuous contact with Us.  It can be said that she does not know anything about Our Supreme Being.  Her sight is so weak and sickly, that it is painful for her even to look.  She suffers from the last stage of myopia, and she can hardly see even the most necessary things.  She can hardly hear, and how very much it takes to make her listen—if she listens at all.  Her smell, taste and touch sense what is human.  She feeds herself with earthly things—feels the touch of passions, and the sweetness of mundane pleasures.  She doesn’t even do My Will every day, but only in painful circumstances and encounters, when My Will offers her a suffering.  O, poor creatures without My continuous Will.  How weak they grow—so nervous and ill as to move to pity!  How I pity them.  Finally, one who is not even resigned—blind and with no sense of smell, loses the taste for every good.  She is a poor paralytic who can’t really help herself.  She imprisons herself in a web of unhappiness and sins, and is not able to get out.”
